The Role

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Assistant Editor to play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of our daytime news programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the editorial direction of our output, ensuring our content is engaging and informative.

The successful candidate will work closely with presenters, producers, and senior editorial staff to create compelling and agenda-setting news shows that resonate with our audience.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the editorial development of GB News’ daytime programming, ensuring the highest standards of journalism.
• Work closely with the Head of Programming, Editors, and production teams to create fresh, engaging, and innovative news content.
• Shape the rundown, editorial content, and tone of the shows, ensuring they are lively, informative, and aligned with GB News’ editorial values.
• Lead story selection, guest bookings, and script approvals, ensuring balanced and insightful coverage.
• Manage breaking news situations, making quick editorial decisions to ensure accurate and fast coverage.
• Collaborate with digital and social media teams to maximise audience engagement across all platforms.
• Mentor and develop producers, reporters, and junior staff, fostering a culture of excellence and creativity.
• Uphold GB News’ commitment to free speech, diverse perspectives, and engaging debate.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior editorial role within a newsroom, preferably in TV news production.
• A strong understanding of UK news, politics, and current affairs.
• Ability to make sharp editorial decisions in a fast-paced, live broadcast environment.
• Experience in crafting compelling news content, from rundown planning to on-air execution.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
• Excellent knowledge of broadcast compliance and Ofcom regulations.
• A creative mindset with the ability to innovate and drive audience engagement.
• A passion for delivering distinctive and agenda-setting news coverage.
