Senior Production Manager
Role summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Production Manager to join our team in London. Reporting to the Head of Field Operations you will play a critical leadership role within Field Operations, supporting the delivery of high-quality, technically complex broadcast output across news, politics, royal coverage, and major live events.
Field Operations sits at the centre of editorial, technical, and transmission workflows. The successful candidate will therefore bring a strong combination of production management expertise, technical broadcast understanding, and editorial awareness.
Key responsibilities and main tasks:
· Help coordinate international assignments, including logistics, risk assessments, and technical planning.
· Manage carnets, filming permits, and accreditations where required.
· Work closely with editorial, engineering, and external partners to deliver safe and effective deployments.
· Work closely with MCR, Engineering, and Tech Ops to align editorial requirements with technical delivery.
· Support last-minute breaking news operations requiring rapid mobilisation.
· Support pre-production planning processes for OBs and large-scale broadcasts.
· Assist with planning and delivery of large-scale national events, conferences, and political coverage.
· Liaise with UK broadcast networks, government departments, and external vendors to ensure operational readiness.
· Support accreditation processes, site surveys, and technical planning meetings.
· Contribute to planning for Royal, political, and high-profile state events.
· Support leadership and coordination of camera operators and field teams.
· Assist with daily resource planning, ensuring shifts are fully staffed and assignments covered.
· Contribute to freelancer management and budget tracking to support operational requirements.
· Coordinate operator allocations across:
o Newsgathering
o Political Pool & Royal Pool
o Sit-down interviews and pre-records
o Programming
o International deployments
o Outside Broadcasts (OBs)
· Assist in preparing and distributing call sheets and operational documentation.
· Support complex field shoots where security, access, or technical challenges require senior oversight.
· Help oversee onboarding and pairing of new Video Journalists and Reporters with experienced operators.
· Maintain accurate operational records within SAGA to support a centralised workflow across departments.
Required Skills & Experience
· Significant experience in broadcast production management, field operations, or live news environments.
· Strong technical understanding of outside broadcasts, newsgathering, and transmission workflows.
· Proven ability to manage complex logistics in fast-moving news environments.
· Experience working across editorial and technical teams simultaneously.
· Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Experience managing freelancers, staffing logistics, and live production planning.
· Experience with political, royal, or major national event coverage.
· Knowledge of international deployment processes and compliance requirements.
· Previous experience coordinating with UK broadcast networks or government stakeholders.
